Ingredients and Variations
When it comes to choosing ground turkey, if possible, buy packages marked 85/15 (85% lean, 15% fat) as ground turkey is already very lean.
We’re using our homemade Best Seasoning for Burgers mix which is made up of: cumin, Montreal Steak Seasoning, garlic powder (try homemade), smoked paprika, ground black pepper, and onion powder.
In addition to the burger rub, this recipe uses a bit of Worcestershire sauce and unsalted butter.
How Long and at What Temperature Do You Cook Turkey Burgers in an Air Fryer?
I cook my turkey burgers at 400F. The length of time depends on how large and how thick the patties are.
- 3.5-inch wide patties that are 1/2 inch thick need ~12-13 minutes of cooking time.
- 5-inch wide patties that are 1/3 inch thick need ~8-10 minutes of cooking time.
- Frozen turkey burgers need 12-17 minutes at 400F.
The safe cooking temperature for ground turkey is 165F. Use an instant-read meat thermometer to determine when the patties are finished.
What to Serve with Turkey Burgers in the Air Fryer
I’m a fan of serving my turkey burgers with Air Fryer Curly Fries, Frozen Sweet Potato Fries in the Air Fryer, Crispy Potato Wedges, Air Fryer Waffle Fries, or Air Fryer Curly Fries. If you prefer veggie fries, check out our Turnip Fries, Butternut Squash Fries, or Air Fryer Green Bean Fries.
For veggie sides, I recommend Cucumber and Onion Salad, Healthy Coleslaw, Pea Salad, or Instant Pot Potato Salad.
Meal Prep Tips
Double the recipe and freeze half of the patties, uncooked on a baking sheet lined with parchment. Freeze for 2-3 hours and then transfer to freezer storage.
Prep once and cooking twice is my biggest hack for getting quick dinners on the table during a busy night.
Pro Tips/Recipe Notes
- Do not overmix the ingredients as it can lead to patties that are too soft and fall apart. Mix to the point where the burger seasoning is well-distributed and then form the patties.
- Turkey does not shrink while cooking. Form patties that are true to size to fit the burger buns.
- For best results: refrigerate patties for 1 hour or freeze for 20 minutes.
- Preheating the air fryer will produce the best burgers.
- You can omit the butter to make these burgers dairy-free.
