Foreign investors sold almost $9 billion in Canadian equities in September, mostly banking ($7.7bn).

Meanwhile, Canadian investors were loading up on foreign securities, acquiring almost $10 billion worth, an unprecedented total. Foreign government bonds were the main focus.
They divested $1.4 billion in foreign equities, the fifth month that their exposure was reduced.
But foreign bonds were in favour with around $14 billion acquired in September, a new record high. This included their highest level of US government bond purchases in 7 years ($6 billion) and $7 billion of non-US foreign bonds.
The stats show that total net outflows neared $32 billion in September, the largest since December 2000. The third quarter saw international inflows of just above $7 billion while the year-to-date total was just short of $120 billion.
