Most of the UK is planning for a lean festive period this Christmas, and perhaps wisely, supermarkets are joining in with Christmas meal deals and festive spreads, seeking to help people as food prices continue to rise. So, what discounts are available this Christmas?
ASDA
Asda’s ‘Christmas Magic’ includes a special deal on many products that would usually be found in their Extra Special range, including decadent pudding treats to cap your Christmas dinner. Asda have also said they’ll be offering an ongoing calendar of offers for advance shoppers, including their ‘Buy 6, Save 25%’ wine offer.
WAITROSE
Waitrose are offering to help customers assemble their Christmas dinner, all the trimmings included (and again, importantly that means dessert!) from £40 for a family of four.
They are also offering special deals across the myWaitrose loyalty scheme, with additional special offers instore and Super Saver recipes, with suggestions for Christmas meals at under £2 per head.
ALDI
Aldi’s ‘Super Six’ initiative features six Christmas essential fresh produce items at low prices: these are changed every two weeks, so near to Christmas, log in to see which festive items are discounted.
The latest research from Which? confirmed that Aldi was the cheapest supermarket in the UK in September 2022: £1.84 less than Lidl!
SAINSBURYS
Sainsbury’s have pledged to help customers organise and afford their Christmas plans with a simple online system where you select the store and date where you’d like to collect your order from; browse their selection of delicious products, add them to your basket and secure with a £20 deposit, then collect in-store on 22, 23, or 24 December at your chosen time.
This is surely a great way to plan your Christmas spend from home and take the stress out of the process.
TESCO
Tesco are offering a frozen Christmas dinner for just £25, which includes a 14lb turkey, roast potatoes, pigs in blankets, Yorkshire puddings, peas, sprouts and carrots: the benefits of this deal is it’s a set price and will stay fresh until 25 December.
They are also urging customers to take them up on their offer to do their ‘shopping list for less’, taking advantage of early deals to save time, money and stress.
MORRISONS
Morrisons are priding themselves on offering a wide range of treats at competitive prices: starters, trimmings, party spreads, desserts and sweet treats, to traditional (and alternative) mains, including cold smoked salmon for Christmas morning.
For Boxing Day, they suggest British Gammon Joint followed by Passionfruit Panna Cotta Star: these are all being offered for discount deals here.
Thinking Outside the Box
HELLO FRESH are offering up to £75 off for reactivating your account if you’ve previously shopped with them, as an incentive to rejoin them for your December meals, while Ocado are offering 30% off to join and free delivery on selected days until Christmas, depending on when you’re ordering your food.
