In 2023, I set a goal to finish one book per week. I’m aiming to listen to 30 minutes of an audiobook per day (while cooking, cleaning, and/or driving) and read 10 minutes of a book. By doing this, I hope to fairly easily be able to finish one book per week.
You can follow along on GoodReads to see what I’m reading, what books I finish, and the star rating I give each of them.
I’ve read a lot of books about other wars, but I don’t think I’ve read a book written about the war between North and South Korea. I loved the insight that this book gave into what it was like to be a child in that time period — from the food they ate, the expectations placed on them from parents, or how they interacted with others. It gave a window into how girls were viewed very differently than boys by many and what it may have felt like to be a girl in that culture and time period.
Brother’s Keeper is also the story of triumph in the midst of great hardship. It’s a young girl’s courage and love between a brother and sister.
It’s a sad but also beautiful story. I thought it was slow at times and felt like it lacked depth of story-telling through parts of it, but I’m still really happy that I listened to it. And thank you to the follower who suggested it to me — I wish I knew who you were so I could thank you personally!
Verdict: 3 stars
Did you finish any books this week? If so, I’d love to hear what you read!
