Financial Planner shortlisted for military veterans award

Nick Onslow, a Chartered Financial Planner at Progeny, has been shortlisted as a finalist for Role Model of the Year at the British Ex-Forces in Business Awards.

Mr Onslow joined the Financial Planning professionĀ in 2009 after leaving the military.

He is a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society and a Chartered Financial Planner.

HeĀ served for 25 years in the military in a range of accountancy, HR and medic roles.

He served seven operational tours including Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Iraq, Afghanistan and Rwanda.

His shortlisting for Role Model of the Year recognises his mentoring work in schools and at work, his role as education and careers secretary for the Nottingham Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) and sharing his knowledge with military personnel via his involvement with the Forces Money Plan.

Mr Onslow said: “I’m honoured to be a finalist at an awards event which showcases the achievements of military veterans. I’ve been able to apply the many skills gained from my 25-year military career to my second career in financial services and to supporting my local community, so to be recognised as a role model is amazing.

ā€œVeterans have a lot of attributes that are valuable in the workplace, including a strong sense of discipline, unique life experiences and effective interpersonal skills and programmes. These support service leavers to find second careers and are really valuable.”

The British Ex-Forces in Business Awards were established in 2017 to increase the visibility of business role models for service leavers, giving them the confidence to pursue their own aspirations after leaving the military.
