There are currently around 1675 NCR registered Debt Counsellors in South Africa who are considered “active” or are helping consumers.
Over the years, over 2300 Debt Counsellors who were once registered have stopped working in the industry (it is a very high stress, low pay industry).
Among the +- 1700 who are still busy in the industry 55 different Debt Counselling practices have been recognised in this year’s peer review process.
These are Debt Counsellors who are well known by their peers to be busy doing good work in the industry.
Some of the practices are a solo Debt Counsellor alone, while others have a small team of support staff who help make it possible for consumers to get help. Still others are massive set ups with various Debt Counsellors helping consumers with different aspects of their review.
Regardless of their size these Debt Counsellors are known by credit providers to respond quickly to requests for information, to make reasonable proposals for sorting out consumers’ debt situations and for taking matters to court or tribunal.
