How to Freeze Pumpkin Pie

*I’ll walk you through it here with some photos and tips, and you’ll also find a printable recipe card at the bottom of the post with exact measurements, etc. You can also click “jump to recipe” to skip down.

The first step in freezing pumpkin pie is to decide if you’d like to freeze the pie whole, or in slices. A whole frozen pumpkin pie makes a lot of sense if you intend to serve it to a group.

Or, if you’re like me, and are the only one in your household who actually likes pumpkin pie, freezing it in slices allows for individual servings.

Regardless if you’re freezing it whole or in slices, you’ll want it to be fully cooled before you place it in the freezer. If the pie is still warm when it goes into the freezer, it will create a build-up of ice crystals. This will lead to freezer burn.

Freezing Pumpin Pie Whole

After the pie has completely cooled, press plastic wrap over the top of the pie. Freeze for 3-5 hours.

Remove it from the freezer, wrap foil around the entire pie, and then place it in a large freezer-safe plastic bag.

Freezing Pumpkin Pie Slices

Freeze individual slices on a baking sheet lined with parchment. Freeze for 3-5 hours.

Remove the tray from the freezer and transfer frozen slices to freezer-safe plastic bags. I can fit 6 slices of an 8-inch pie in these half-gallon reusable freezer bags.

If you froze the pie whole, you can allow it to thaw for a few hours at room temperature or overnight in the fridge.
