What will I be doing as a Surge Team Customer Care Agent?

This post may contain affiliate links but I only recommend sites that I have personally researched, trust or use.

Your job is to assist individuals and families who have been affected by a natural disaster through inbound calls.  Callers are in immediate need of essential services that include but are not limited to shelter, food, clothing, blankets, health, and mental services, as well as resource locations.  These vital services will help them and their families feel a sense of normalcy in an unexpected crisis that has suddenly altered their lives.

As a Care Agent, you will help to make a positive difference in their lives and fill a need so that they can work on rebuilding their lives.

Will I receive the calls on my smartphone?

No.  All incoming calls will be routed to your computer through a software to assist those in immediate need.

What are the job requirements?

As you handle each call, you will research information in Direct Interaction’s databases to resolve their issues.  All agents are required to be exceptional listeners and avid computer users so they can access multiple computer applications quickly and efficiently.  In addition, you must show empathy, and compassion, and remain poised on each call you take.

Please keep in mind that these calls may come in back-to-back.

All potential agents must possess excellent grammar, data entry, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

What equipment will I need in my home office?

You must have a Laptop or Desktop computer with Windows 10 operating system or higher.  Macs, tablets, or Chromebooks are not acceptable.  You must have access to a DSL or Cable Internet connection in your home.  High-speed Internet through a hardwired Ethernet connection is also acceptable with a US-based Internet service provider or ISP.  Firewall must be operational and installed on your computer as well as a USB headset with a mic and mute button.

If you don’t have these items in your home office, wait until you are offered the position before buying any items.  If you are hired, you can have them delivered to your home address from my Amazon Shop here.

Will I have to work in 24 hours?

Yes.  When a natural disaster occurs, you will be contacted via email and expected to work within a 24-hour timeframe.  Ideally, they would like you to respond within 1-2 hours of notification but you are allowed 24 hours.

Are there any perks?

  • Direct Interactions has a call center that operates 24/7 and offers independent contractors a flexible schedule.
  • You can work in 1-hour increments.
  • You will attend a monthly refresher training session to help you stay prepared.
  • You will get paid for each training session you take.
  • All your training and work is done virtually.
  • You will never have to come onsite for any reason.

How many hours will I be required to work?

All Care Agents are required to commit to a minimum of 20 hours a week during peak call times.  This may happen during high call volume or adverse weather conditions.

How much will I get paid?

Every Agent makes $15 per hour to start.  Bilingual agents who are fluent in English and Spanish will make $15.50 per hour.

Is this job open worldwide?
