How To Buy Happiness With Money

Did you know that those currency notes lying idle inside your wallet have the power to make you happy? Let’s find out how.

How To Buy Happiness With Money

You read it right! Money can buy you happiness, provided you know how to spend it right. We know you’ve been told otherwise, quite a number of times, but once you finish reading this article, hopefully you’ll see what we see. Although this has been a debatable thing and people can’t seem to decide whether money has the ability to buy happiness or not, we believe that if you use it right, it can buy you anything; including happiness. And we’re not talking about buying happiness by buying your favourite car or that designer dress you’ve been eyeing for a while.

Confused? Don’t be! Here’s how your money can make you happy:

  • Spend on experiences, rather than spending on things

It has been scientifically proven that spending on experiences rather than things tends to make you happier, unless you have hidden treasures and can afford to spend on almost everything! Ask yourself. What are your finest memories that often bring a smile to your face? Is it shopping for your favourite gadget or spending time at a family vacation or enjoying a hike with your friends? We are pretty sure that it’s going to be something to do with a great experience of your life and not some gadget that made you happy for a while, but then eventually faded out.

  • Invest in others; make them smile

Have you ever done something to make someone smile? Have you used your money to buy chocolates for a friend who just flunked their exams, or have you helped a starving stranger by offering them some food? Investing in others and doing a good deed has tremendous power to make you a happier person. If you haven’t experienced it till date, try doing something selflessly for someone in need. Investing your money in someone else can make you extremely happy and satisfied; more than buying your favourite ice cream!

  • Buy time, to spend with your loved ones

By buying time, we don’t actually mean that you have to purchase it. But, well, one of the perks of having a good bank balance is that you get to spend more time with your loved ones. Didn’t get it? Here’s what we mean—since you have enough money, you can afford to spend on outsourcing little things like hiring a house maid to take care of the house chores, while you get more free time to spend with your family. In today’s time, we have everything but time. We often hear our family members complaining that we don’t spend enough time with them. Now is your chance to do something about those complaints. Buy more free time and get to spend more time with your loved ones. It’s bound to make you and them equally happy, isn’t it?

  • Spend on little joys of life, rather than spending on designer clothes

All of us who love designer clothes always have an eye out for the biggest sales on our favourite brands. We buy our favourite clothes, flaunt them every chance we get, feel momentarily happy and then it all eventually fades out! That dress or that new pair of sunglasses that used to be our primary source of joy once upon a time, suddenly mean nothing and we start thinking of ways to sell them off. Instead of wasting your money on things that’ll stop meaning so much to you after a point, it’s better to invest in small things that’ll continue to make you smile. This could be a mid-night drive with your loved one and a bucket of your favourite ice-cream. You’ll spend only on petrol and ice-cream, but this moment will remain etched in your memory for long and will continue to make you smile! Small things are pretty powerful!

  • Spend for your joy, rather than spending just to show-off

Most of us tend to buy the latest smartphone or the latest car just to give tough competition to the people around us. We are so desperate to fit in, that it doesn’t even take us a minute to swipe our Credit Card to get something that’ll make us look good in front of our friends. We think that doing that will make us happy, but it doesn’t. It just portrays us as one of the many show-offs who’d do anything just to show that they can. If you don’t want to look like one of those desperate people, it’s time you stop buying things just with the aim of showing off and start spending on things that make you happy. It might be a cheaper phone. If you like it, go buy it. It’ll at least make you happy!
