The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) has named the recipients of the 2022 Brian Gray Scholarship, which aims to support research students pursuing careers in finance, economics, actuarial science, econometrics, statistics, or related disciplines.
Established in 2002, the scholarship will see the recipients devoting a substantial amount of time to complete an agreed research topic and present their findings to APRA and the Reserve Bank of Australia.
The 2022 scholarship recipient Sofia Mendes of the University of Sydney will produce a paper on the effect of monetary policy on wealth inequality in Australia. Recipient Avish Sharma, also from the University of Sydney, will research the impact of monetary policy on homeownership across the life cycles.
Applications to the 2023 scholarship will open in December. It is open to Australian and New Zealand citizens and permanent residents completing their honours year or postgraduate studies on topics of relevance to APRA and/or the RBA.
