Entire Aussie town up for sale

An entire Aussie town, complete with a church, a caravan park, and a trout-filled lake, has been put up for sale, seeking expressions of interest in excess of $12 million.

The Tarraleah Estate is a former hydro town in Tasmania’s central highlands. Originally built in the 1930s, the town was home to nearly 2,000 people in its heyday, before falling into disrepair in the 1980s.

Tarraleah Estate, with the potential to become a “contemporary tourist oasis, a new township, or… an esteemed residential estate,” stretches over 147 hectares with six titles and includes restaurants, cafes, function spaces, and four types of accommodation – all equipped with town water supply, electricity, telecommunications infrastructure, and road networks, news.com.au reported.

The estate also has sizeable lakeside land that has been primed for 71 new homesites plus a community development scheme ready for final approval stage.

Property developer Julian Homer has owned the estate since 2006. Tarraleah Estate was put into the property market a couple of years ago, but a sale was not made at that time due to the deteriorating situation at the start of the COVID period, news.com.au reported.
