What does Outdated Client mean?

When you get an outdated client error in Minecraft, you are probably on an older version of Minecraft. You will not be granted access to some servers if you have not updated the Minecraft app to the latest version.

Hence, servers on the latest version of Minecraft and your current version may not be compatible.

Usually, the Minecraft PE app is automatically updated when you’re connected to a Wi-Fi while playing the game. Otherwise, the app won’t update.

Once the app fails to update, it could lead to a connection issue while accessing a server. However, we have explained how to fix outdated client in Minecraft.

To fix the outdated client error in Minecraft, you should update the app to the most recent version. Afterwards, you can make some changes to your in-app settings.

Open Minecraft PE/Bedrock on your device and go to “Settings”. Under settings, locate and tap “Profile”. Now, under “Auto Update Unlocked Packs”, choose “On with Wi-Fi or Cellular data” settings and enable “Use Cellular Data”, “Require Encrypted Websockets”, and “Only Allow Trusted Skins” options.

Retry joining the server and the outdated client error should be fixed.

Update Minecraft

To begin with, you need to update the Minecraft app to the most recent version. Go to App Store on iOS or the Google Play Store on Android and find “Minecraft”. The update option will be visible if there is an update.

If “Update” is visible, tap it and update Minecraft to the latest version. Otherwise, joining specific servers may not be allowed if your Minecraft version is incompatible with such a server.

You can remove Minecraft and reinstall the app if Minecraft has already been updated.

Make changes to your settings

If you find an update to Minecraft, update to the latest version and start the app again. Afterwards, you need to make changes to your settings.

Get your device, start the Minecraft app and tap the “Settings” app. Go to settings, then proceed to the step below.

Enable some options

Under “Settings”, check the left sidebar and tap on “Profile” located under the “General” option. From the profile settings, find the “Auto Update Unlocked Packs” dropdown and choose “On with Wi-Fi or Cellular Data”.

The option will allow auto-update unlocked packs even when you are not on a Wi-Fi network. Besides, you should enable the “Use Cellular Data”, “Require Encrypted Websockets”, and “Only Allow Trusted Skins” options.

Once the “Use Cellular Data” option is enabled, fins and agree to the message that shows in the pop-up message. The message reads:

“Playing over cellular network may incur additional charges with your carrier”.

Remember to configure the profile settings properly by enabling the suitable options. Afterwards, you can retry joining the server, and the outdated client error should disappear.

Minecraft Outdated Client on Xbox

The “Could not connect: Outdated client!” error was experienced on PC and Xbox. It can happen on your Xbox when you join your friend’s world, especially if you and your friend are not on the same Minecraft version.

For example, if both of you are on the beta program/Minecraft Preview, you can experience connection issues.

You can fix the issue by upgrading to the same Minecraft version on your Xbox or leaving the beta program. Go to “installing the Xbox Insider Hub app”, then go to Previews. Finally, go to Minecraft Preview.

You can get additional help from Minecraft if you cannot fix this. You can go to the “Submit a request” page on the Minecraft website.
