You probably already know that I love making extra money with smartphone apps. I mean, what’s not to love?! Just scan a few receipts or barcodes and earn cash rewards and gift cards for a few minutes of my time; sign me up!
One that I’ve been using for a while now is the Fetch Rewards app. If you’ve been curious about this app but weren’t sure if it was worth your time, keep reading. In this real-life Fetch Rewards review, I’m covering everything you need to know!
What is Fetch Rewards?
Launched by Wes Schroll in 2013, Fetch Rewards is a mobile phone app for Android and iOS users in the United States. With this app, you can earn gift cards from a wide variety of retailers by scanning your receipts with the app.
Each week, you can scan up to 35 receipts from places like grocery stores, department stores, big box stores, restaurants, gas stations, and more. Receipts must not be older than 14 days, and they must have the date, name of the store, and the total amount of the bill to be eligible to earn points.
Fetch Rewards also allows users to upload digital receipts by connecting their Amazon, Walmart, Gmail, or Outlook accounts. I have not connected any of my accounts, as I’m not comfortable with them having access to them. But if you’re comfortable with this, you could earn a lot of points if you do most of your shopping online.
How Much is Each Receipt Worth?
Most receipts are worth 25 points; however, if you purchase a qualifying item, your receipt can be worth much more. For instance, one time, I had a receipt that brought in 2,330 points because I had six qualifying items!
The best way to ensure that your receipt qualifies for the maximum number of points is to browse their special offers before you go shopping. For example, if you purchase Resse’s ice cream products right now, you can earn 900 points when you scan your receipt with this item.
It generally takes 5,000 points to earn a $3 reward. However, the more points you save, the further your points will go. For instance, currently, you can get a $5 Starbucks gift card for 6,500 points and a $10 gift card for 11,500 points.
How Can You Earn Extra Points?
In addition to scanning and uploading e-receipts, you can also earn points by playing games, referring your friends to the app, and using GoodRx coupons.
To earn points with referrals, email, share on social media, or text your referral code from inside the app to your friends and family. Right now, in March, when a friend signs up with your referral link, you’ll both earn 1,000 points when they snap a pic of their first receipt using the app. Just a heads up, the referral bonus is variable. Sometimes, you’ll earn more than 1,000 points, and sometimes, less.
To earn money playing games on Fetch, you’ll need to give tracking permission to the app so they can track your gaming activities. Once you’ve allowed tracking, you can download and play games like Candy Crush Saga, Travel Town, and Solatarie Grand Harvest. Right now, you can earn 99 points when you download Candy Crush Saga and complete level 10 in the first 60 days after installation. If you complete level 100 in your first 60 days, you earn another 338 points. I haven’t tried earning points with this method, but it seems pretty easy if you’re comfortable with them tracking your activity.
The last way to earn points with Fetch Rewards is by using GoodRx coupons. To do so, click on the GoodRx tab within the app and search for the type of prescription medication you need. Once you find a retailer, use the app to share the coupon code with the retailer. Once you have your receipt from the store, upload it to Fetch. You’ll earn 10,000 points on your first use and 1,500 points each time after.
How Much Can You Really Earn Using the Fetch App?
As you can see, the amount one can earn with the Fetch Rewards app will vary greatly. It depends on what brands you purchase, how often you shop, and if you plan on using all of the app’s features.
I’ve been using the app since 2021, and during that time, I’ve earned a grand total of $100, which I used to purchase gift cards from Amazon and Starbucks. While this isn’t a ton of money, it’s basically free coffee and books for me! The app is free and all I have to do is scan receipts, which only takes a few seconds and is totally worth my time!
With Fetch Rewards, you can use your earnings to purchase sweepstake entries, cash rewards, gift cards, and Fetch merch. Right now, your sweepstake entries are good for a chance to win a MacBook Air. Gift card redemption offers include popular brands like Amazon, Bath & Body Works, Ulta, eBay, Instacart, Target, Walmart, Airbnb, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Visa, and many others!
You can also use your Fetch Rewards points to make charitable donations to organizations such as the American Red Cross and the American Cancer Society.
To get an idea of how many points you’ll need, here are some minimum point requirements: 100 points for a sweepstake entry, 5,000 points for a $3 gift card, and 20,000 points for a Fetch T-shirt.
Does Fetch Rewards Have Any Complaints?
I’ve been using Fetch Rewards for a few years now, and I’ve never had any issues with the platform. I’ve been able to redeem my points easily, and I’ve never had to contact customer service for help. So, personally, I give the app 5 out of 5 stars!
Fetch Rewards has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, a 4.8-star rating from users in the Apple app store, and a 4.6-star rating in the Google Play app store.
One user on Reddit complained about Fetch closing down their account for fraudulent receipts. When you search online for Fetch reviews, this Reddit thread is the first result that pops up. But if you read through all the comments, the majority of people love the app and recommend it to their friends and family.
If you ever have any issues using the mobile app, you can contact their support team by submitting a ticket within the app. A quick heads up! Your points will expire if your account is inactive for 90 days. To keep your account active, just upload a receipt.
Apps Like Fetch Rewards
There are many companies, like Fetch Rewards, that will reward you for uploading your receipts to their apps. The other two that I’m currently using are Ibotta and Receipt Hog.
Ibotta App
I’ve been using the Ibotta app since 2013, and it’s one of my favorite rewards apps! With Ibotta, you browse your favorite stores and brands before you go shopping. If you purchase a qualifying cashback item, you just scan your receipt and the item’s barcode into the app, and you’ll get cashback from your purchase. With Ibotta, you can scan in-store receipts and receipts from online purchases. They also have all sorts of bonuses where you can get extra cashback amounts for certain activities, like referring your friends to the app. Over the last 11 years, I’ve earned a grand total of $2,503.51 in rewards from using the Ibotta app.
Receipt Hog
Another app like Fetch is Receipt Hog. This smartphone app allows you to scan your receipts from grocery stores, big box stores, and really anywhere! For each receipt (paper and online) that you upload, you’ll earn virtual coins that can be used to purchase gift cards from Amazon, Visa, and PayPal. You can also earn bonus points for referring friends and taking product surveys. You won’t make a ton with this app, but it’s simple to use, and it only takes a few seconds to snap a pic of your receipt. I’ve earned a grand total of $130 using this app!
